My name is Brian MarkmaN, I started as a DJ, playing Acid Jazz in the golden age of the scene. I started buying House records a bit before and always connected with Soul, R&B and early Hip Hop so this was a natural step. As trip hop started to eclipse Acid Jazz in popularity, the funkiness felt further and further away. This evolved into playing Drum and Bass with some friends from school. Reveling in the heavy use of elements I loved, Jungle, then Drum and Bass was the perfect fit for me, allowing me to try Hip Hop or Dancehall instrumentals or acapellas over the syncopated rhythms. Over time the scene would become much more instrumental and much less Soul music oriented, so I moved on. My R&B and house roots led me back to 4 beat music, but I wanted vocals. Fortunately the Brits were playing with a new sound that sounded like soul over House beats. This was Speed Garage that soon became Two Step or UK Garage and I played this for the next few years. A little before this time I began writing music trading on my influences and ear (if not my training or playing ability). About twenty years ago I went to audio school to learn how to engineer, helping cement the course of my career thus far. Now I write music, engineer, DJ and sometimes perform visuals for friends' acts when I can. A few years ago, I partnered up with Trovarsi to create Forward, a live performance duo that lives on the line where House meets Techno. I currently produce and DJ garage house music, coming full circle with my sound.
