Somethin' new...

Been far too long since I did a new DJ mix.  "Just get it On" is the first mix with me returning to my house roots.  I played funky Indie stuff with shades of my favorite sounds, but it took a long time to find the sound that I have always most identified with.  Many of these tunes are culled from DJs I admire, most prominently Grant Nelson.  I mention him by name because his Housecall radio show is what showed me a light in the dark of modern dance music.  I love techno and other styles of dance music, but don't feel that they represent what I would play to move a dance floor.  My version of the soulful, sexy vibes that got me to play music in the first place had a different feel than other offerings I hear around me most of the time.  This mix involved more trainspotting than I am usually comfortable with, but I didn't know artists or labels having taken so much time off and coming from the Indie dance world most recently.  Now I have many more records in this style and don't have to lean on the ears of others to fill out my sound.  As I'm almost back to full strength with my house chops, I want to shout the people that have kept the flame burning in me all of this time and probably will forever.

Shouts and respect to: Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Nile Rodgers and Chic, EZ, MJ Cole, DJ Dan, Wookie, Spoony, Mikee B, Timmi Magic, Zed Bias, T-Bird and Ameno.  I'm sure there are more names and I'll shout them in future posts.
