Bubblin'...

So once upon a time I did a show called "bubblin' ova" on Fresh Produce Radio.  Now, years later as I find my way back to my garage roots, Bubblin', the new iteration of that show is here.

Funky house, garage, some techno and breaks, and whatever strikes me as noteworthy in that vein will be fodder for this new offering. Take a listen, there are more to come.

Somethin' new...

Been far too long since I did a new DJ mix.  "Just get it On" is the first mix with me returning to my house roots.  I played funky Indie stuff with shades of my favorite sounds, but it took a long time to find the sound that I have always most identified with.  Many of these tunes are culled from DJs I admire, most prominently Grant Nelson.  I mention him by name because his Housecall radio show is what showed me a light in the dark of modern dance music.  I love techno and other styles of dance music, but don't feel that they represent what I would play to move a dance floor.  My version of the soulful, sexy vibes that got me to play music in the first place had a different feel than other offerings I hear around me most of the time.  This mix involved more trainspotting than I am usually comfortable with, but I didn't know artists or labels having taken so much time off and coming from the Indie dance world most recently.  Now I have many more records in this style and don't have to lean on the ears of others to fill out my sound.  As I'm almost back to full strength with my house chops, I want to shout the people that have kept the flame burning in me all of this time and probably will forever.

Shouts and respect to: Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Nile Rodgers and Chic, EZ, MJ Cole, DJ Dan, Wookie, Spoony, Mikee B, Timmi Magic, Zed Bias, T-Bird and Ameno.  I'm sure there are more names and I'll shout them in future posts.

New year, new drive...

I'm far from a resolution-type guy but it appears that life has taken some turns that lead me to some much-needed changes.  Putting the house in order, both literally and figuratively has helped to highlight some mistakes in planning while reinvigorating my main loves.  New drive means focus is paramount, so starting there.  Bear with me, so many ideas and sometimes focus is at a premium.  New mostly everything soon, or more like upgrades on their way.  Welcome to 2016, seems like a good one so far...

faster and faster...

Two new videos up of my Push/Volca setup.  The technical and workflow stuff is all ironed out and now I'm writing actual songs as opposed to just jamming all the time. This is really only for quality control purposes.  This is more of an art project than anything else, I like traditional production for myself as opposed to jamming out when working alone.  Live is a different story, though.  I just found that its hard to stay consistent starting from a completely blank canvas every time with music.  I'll do a breakdown of the setup soon with the technical stuff for those who would benefit, there's a lot going on.  Gonna do a live thing online soon with the Red gate folks with a trippier feel, I think, we'll see.  So far so good, now its becoming more and more fun and less and less technical, which was the point all along.
